Government assures probe into 'fake ST' claims by Dharchula MLA
Gairsain, March 11 -- A day after Congress MLA from Dharchula Harish Dhami threatened to sit on a fast unto death, alleging that the woman holding the post of Dharchula block pramukh does not belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category despite the seat being reserved for it, the state government on Wednesday in the state assembly in Gairsain assured to conduct a probe after the MLA raised the matter in the House.
On Wednesday, the Congress MLA, while speaking in the assembly, said, "It is being said that I am promoting casteism. If raising the voice of the Scheduled Tribe community is considered a crime, then I will commit this 'crime' again and again until my last breath," he said.
Parliamentary affairs minister Subodh Uniyal said when a complaint was filed before the returning officer (RO), the matter was disposed of as per the appropriate rules.
"The matter is currently sub judice before the district court. It is also not pending before the scrutiny committee at the district magistrate level," he said.
"After reviewing the matter in view of its seriousness, an inquiry will be conducted and decision will be taken in accordance with the rules. A decision will be taken after 30 days as per the prescribed procedure".
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the Dharchula MLA had alleged,"Manjula Devi is not Scheduled Tribe but belongs to the General Caste, falling under the Rajput category. Names of her father, Gajendra Singh Bohra, and her mother, Saraswati Bohra, are registered in land records in Nepal. She became a member of the area panchayat by submitting false documents,"
"As per the Supreme Court, such complaints should be resolved at the district magistrate level within two months. A complaint in this regard was filed with DM on August 29, but it has not been heard till date. I demand a probe and the guilty to be punished," he said.
Alleging that the Speaker was not ready to listen to the matter in the House, he had added he will go on a fast unto death until the issue is heard.
"I am a diabetes patient. If anything happens to me, the responsibility will lie with the Speaker...," he said, adding that he was willing to face consequences if his allegations were proven wrong.
"If I am proven wrong, my membership as an MLA should be cancelled," he said....
