Golf tournament in memory of Vijay Kumar begins today
LUCKNOW, June 9 -- The DP World Professional Golf Tour of India on Monday announced the launch of the inaugural DP World PGTI NexGen Vijay Kumar Memorial, a special event dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary legacy of legendary Indian golfer Vijay Kumar.
Vijay's sudden and untimely demise at the age of 57, in April this year at his place in Lucknow, was a great loss to Indian golf and to the golfing fraternity in India. The inaugural three-day Vijay Kumar Memorial, the fifth event of the 2026 NexGen season, is scheduled to be held at Lucknow Golf Club from Tuesday.
Vijay Kumar, winner of the 2002 Indian Open and a four-time Order of Merit champion on the Indian domestic circuit, was among the most accomplished and respected names in Indian professional golf. Born in Lucknow on September 29, 1968, Vijay turned professional in 1988. He dominated Indian domestic golf from the mid-1990s to the early part of the next decade winning numerous titles.
The tournament offers a prize purse of Rs 25 lakh. The event will be played over three rounds (54 holes) with the cut being applied after two rounds (36 holes). The top-36 players and ties will make the cut for the third and final round.
In the world of golf, a hole-in-one is an achievement that most players dream of accomplishing at least once in their lifetime. However, golfer Shikhar Singh of The Palms Golf Club has achieved this remarkable feat for the third time, further demonstrating his exceptional skill and golfing excellence.

What makes this achievement particularly noteworthy is that it marks Shikhar Singh's third hole-in-one, a testament to his consistency, technical proficiency, and extraordinary control over the game. His first hole-in-one came in January, at Hole No. 4, whereas the second hole-in-one was recorded this March at Hole No. 3.
Now, with a 5-iron on Hole No. 6, Shikhar Singh has repeated the magic for the third time, firmly establishing himself among the most accomplished and celebrated golfers at The Palms Golf Club....
