Gkp contractor killing video row deepens, lawyer alleges police pressure
GORAKHPUR, Aug. 12 -- A viral video of the brutal killing of contractor Shiv Kumar Tripathi has put Gorakhpur police under scrutiny, with an outpost in-charge allegedly approaching advocate and corporator Vishwajeet Tiwari at the court premises on Tuesday and asking him to delete the footage.
Tiwari had uploaded the video on Monday evening. It purportedly shows 52-year-old Tripathi being attacked with a sword while crying for help.
Tiwari also alleged that some police personnel were acting in collusion with the assailants.
The alleged attempt to remove the video triggered fresh anger among members of the legal fraternity. Office-bearers of the Civil Court Bar Association have called a meeting to discuss the matter and decide their next course of action.
SSP Dr Kaustubh said police had registered Case No. 217/2026 against nine accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Eight have been arrested and proceedings to invoke the National Security Act have been initiated against them, he said. Police also recovered a sword and a khanti, a sharp agricultural tool, allegedly used in the killing.
SP (South) Dinesh Kumar Puri said the investigation suggested that Vindniwas Chaudhary, his brothers Rahul and Bhanu Chaudhary and other family members allegedly conspired to kill Tripathi in an act of revenge. Tripathi's family had reportedly figured in the investigation into the killing of Adesh Chaudhary in August 2024.
According to police, Tripathi was attending a brahm bhoj in Ahirauli village on Saturday when Rahul allegedly attacked him.
As villagers took him to hospital, the accused allegedly intercepted the vehicle, dragged Tripathi out and repeatedly attacked him with swords, killing him....
