GBPSSI to launch centre for Indian knowledge traditions
PRAYAGRAJ, May 31 -- Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute (GBPSSI), Prayagraj, is set to launch a dedicated Centre for Bhartiya Gyan Parampara (Indian Knowledge Traditions) and prepare a comprehensive encyclopaedia on the subject to preserve and promote India's intellectual and cultural heritage.
Addressing mediapersons on Thursday, GBPSSI director prof Yogendra Pratap Singh said the proposed Centre would focus on the study, preservation, documentation and spread of India's classical, folk, indigenous and tribal knowledge traditions through interdisciplinary research and academic collaboration.
He said the encyclopaedia would be a scientific, interdisciplinary and multilingual repository covering classical knowledge systems such as the Vedas, Upanishads, philosophy, Ayurveda, mathematics and astronomy. It will also include folk traditions, tribal knowledge, oral histories, ecological wisdom and craft traditions.
As part of the initiative, the Institute will organise a two-day "Bhartiya Gyan Manthan Workshop" on May 30 and 31. More than 150 university teachers, researchers, scholars, policy analysts and practitioners of traditional knowledge from across the country are expected to take part.
Prof Singh said discussions during the workshop would help prepare the conceptual and methodological framework of the proposed encyclopaedia.
The Centre for Bhartiya Gyan Parampara will be inaugurated on May 31 at 3 pm by Uttar Pradesh transport minister Dayashankar Singh. Vice-Chancellor of Prof Rajendra Singh (Rajju Bhaiya) University, Prof Akhilesh Singh, will preside over the programme.
