PRAYAGRAJ, July 1 -- The Prayagraj Police Commissionerate is preparing to invoke provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act against seven accused, including former Samajwadi Party MLA Ansar Ahmed, in connection with the Adarsh Cold Storage collapse in Phaphamau that claimed four lives earlier this year. Proceedings under the Gangster Act are being done on the directions of Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar. According to the Police Commissioner, the action aims to curb organised crime and ensure stringent legal proceedings against those allegedly involved in the case. Once the Gangster Act is invoked, authorities will begin identifying the movable and immovable assets of the accused and initiate proceedings for their attachment as per law. Those facing the proposed action include Adarsh Cold Storage owner and former MLA Ansar Ahmed, his son Manzoor Ahmed, nephew Alauddin, and cold storage employees Mohd Jabir Ali alias Javed, Mohd Usman, Mohd Irfan and Mohd Aslam alias Baba. Cases have already been registered against all seven accused at Phaphamau police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Criminal Law Amendment (CLA) Act. All the accused have secured bail from the court. The development comes three months after a major portion of the Adarsh Cold Storage building in Chandapur village under Phaphamau police station limits collapsed on March 23. Several labourers and employees were present inside the facility at the time of the incident. Four people died after being trapped under the debris, while 12 others sustained injuries. Rescue teams, along with police and district administration officials, carried out a prolonged operation to pull out those trapped beneath the rubble. The 27-year-old cold storage facility comprises three buildings and employs more than 100 workers. According to officials, the collapsed structure covered nearly 10,000 square feet. The accident occurred while some workers were resting and others were having meals. Police alleged the cold storage exceeded its sanctioned potato storage capacity for profit and violated safety norms, contributing to the collapse....
