Gang rape accused deny charges, police seek custodial remand
LUCKNOW, June 5 -- The two accused, who surrendered in the alleged gang rape case involving a 19-year-old Delhi University student from UP's Jaunpur district, denied all charges during questioning inside the district jail.
Investigating officer inspector Vinod Pandey recorded the statements of accused Shivam Yadav, 20, and his associate Sunny, 19, who recently surrendered before a court.
During interrogation, Shivam claimed he had known the complainant for a long time, remained in regular contact with her and wanted to marry her. He reportedly told police their relationship was consensual and alleged that some of the woman's relatives saw them together, escalating the matter.
Both Shivam and Sunny denied any wrongdoing and rejected the complainant's allegations of gang rape last month. They also denied the involvement of any third person in the incident.
Meanwhile, Lucknow police have moved an application seeking a three-day custodial remand of both accused for further interrogation. Police said the probe is ongoing, and they are verifying all claims made by both the complainant and the accused.
