Lucknow, Sept. 26 -- Heavy rain shortened the farewell procession of the 10-day Ganeshotsav at Jhaulelal Vatika on Friday, with the idol of Lord Ganesha immersed at the venue instead of being taken out in a longer procession. Organised by the Shri Ganesh Prakatya Committee, the festival concluded with a traditional bhoo-visarjan ceremony. Priests performed Vedic rituals at the pandal before the idol was placed on a chariot amid chants of "Ganpati Bappa Morya, agle baras tu jaldi aa". Committee patron Bharat Bhushan Gupta said the organisers opted for bhoo-visarjan to prevent pollution of the Gomti and promote environmental conservation. A 25 foot wide and 15 foot deep pit was filled with Gomti water, following which the idol was lowered into it with the help of a crane and immersed as per rituals. The organisers said devotees wrote nearly two lakh letters containing their wishes during the 10-day festival. These letters, placed at the feet of the idol, were also immersed along with it.
