FSDA lodges six FIRs afterAgra raids, scraps 58 licences
Agra, July 12 -- The Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FSDA) has lodged six first information reports and suspended or cancelled 58 wholesale licences as part of its enforcement drive against counterfeit medicines, illegal re-labelling and sale purchase of physician samples with Agra as the centre, according to an FSDA statement. The authorities are in the process of lodging three more FIRs, the statement added.
A team of 15 drug inspectors raided the offices of 13 suspicious firms in Agra's main medicine markets and sealed their premises on Friday (July 10). Following the raids conducted on the FSDA commissioner's instructions, 35 medicine samples were collected for tests and analysis. Till date, counterfeit medicines with a face value of Rs 3.63 crore and meant for government or defence consumption were seized in Agra, the statement added.
This included a major haul of insulin, vaccines and medicines found stored without a cold chain in May.
In addition, Oxalgin DP tablets worth Rs 50 lakh were seized from another agency in Agra, revealing an inter-state link spanning Aligarh and Roorkee, the statement further said.
Instructions were issued for strict vigil against counterfeit medicines, illegal re-labelling, and the sale and purchase of physician samples in Agra, the statement added....
