Fresh vigilance search at house of MLA's brother yields Rs.49 lakh
LUCKNOW, Aug. 26 -- : The vigilance department on Tuesday seized cash and valuables worth around Rs.49 lakh and sealed a house valued at nearly Rs.1 crore during a fresh search in a disproportionate assets case involving Ajay Srivastava, brother of former Congress MLA Mukesh Srivastava, senior vigilance officials said on Tuesday.
The search began around 9am on Monday when a vigilance team reached the residence in three police vehicles fitted with blue beacons. The team of officials secured the main gate from inside and searched the premises for several hours.
Officials said cash and other valuables collectively valued at around Rs.49 lakh were seized during the operation. Investigators also sealed the house. They examined documents, financial records and other material kept in different rooms and also searched the terrace.
Monday's operation was the fifth search conducted at the residence as part of the ongoing investigation. The vigilance department had carried out an earlier search at the same premises last Wednesday.
Ajay Srivastava, a clerk in the health department, is an accused in the disproportionate assets case. Investigators have so far detected assets estimated at around Rs.28 crore during the probe, officials said. Ajay's family members were not present at the house during Monday's search. The property was reportedly being looked after by a relative. Vigilance officials questioned people associated with the premises and examined documents and other material found there.
The team remained at the property for several hours and left around 1pm.
The repeated searches indicate that investigators are continuing to trace assets, financial records and other properties allegedly linked to Ajay Srivastava.
The operation also drew attention from local residents, with people gathering outside the premises as vigilance officials continued their search. Media personnel were asked not to remain close to the house....
