MEERUT, June 18 -- A purported artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video allegedly featuring Shamli resident Ayush Malik, whose alleged religious conversion case is already under investigation, has added a fresh dimension to the controversy, with police registering the fourth FIR linked to the matter. Acting on a complaint by a municipal councillor, Meerut police on Tuesday launched a technical probe into the authenticity of the viral video. Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Sumit Shukla confirmed that a technical investigation into the viral video is underway and said further legal action would follow based on the findings. Anil Upadhyay, a municipal councillor from the Sadar Kotwali area, submitted a complaint alleging that a misleading AI-generated video was being widely circulated on social media. According to him, the video shows a person resembling Ayush Malik making an emotional appeal to the public. Upadhyay alleged that the content was deceptive and could create social and religious tension. He urged authorities to take action against those responsible for creating and circulating the video. The complaint further alleged that the video was shared through a Facebook account named "Asif Khan SDPI" and other social media platforms. In the clip, the individual reportedly identifies himself as Ayush Malik and appeals for support. Based on the complaint, police registered a fresh FIR under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and initiated a technical examination to verify the video's authenticity and source. Officials said this is the fourth FIR registered in connection with the Ayush Malik case so far. The development comes days after Ayush Malik's father alleged that his son had been forcibly converted to another religion. A case was subsequently registered against Chandni Qureshi, her father Islam Qureshi and several others, and three accused have since been arrested and sent to jail.
