Four UP orchestra artistes run over by truck in Bihar's Chhapra
VARANASI/LUCKNOW, May 7 -- Four members of an Uttar Pradesh-based orchestra troupe were killed and several others injured after their pickup vehicle overturned and they were run over by a truck in Bihar's Saran district (popularly known as Chhapra) early on Wednesday, Saran police confirmed in an official statement released on X.
The victims-residents of Ballia, Unnao and Hardoi-were returning to Uttar Pradesh when the accident occurred around 5:30 am near Prabhunath Singh College on the Brahmpur-Revilganj road, part of the Hajipur-Ghazipur stretch of NH-19. The authorities of the three concerned UP districts have confirmed that they have been informed about the deaths of local residents in Saran.
According to police, the pickup vehicle, carrying 12 people including the driver, suddenly went out of control and overturned.
"An unidentified truck ran over four persons lying on the road," the police statement read. Four people died on the spot, while four others sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital in Chhapra
The deceased have been identified as Awdhesh and Soni from Hardoi, Preeti from Unnao, and Rahul from Ballia. Two of those killed were women performers....
