Four sent to 14-day judicial custody; two still at large
LUCKNOW, June 24 -- Four of the six accused booked in connection with the devastating Aliganj building fire that claimed 15 lives were remanded to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday, a day after their arrest. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining two accused.
A day after the tragedy, senior police officials stressed that the investigation would be driven entirely by scientific findings and forensic evidence rather than speculation as the entire day from cops to LDA and fire department and FSL team kept visiting the site at different times.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Babloo Kumar said the exact responsibility for the incident would be determined only after examining technical and scientific evidence collected from the site.
"The entire investigation is centred on scientific evidence and findings. Strict legal action will be taken against all those found guilty," Kumar said.
Police have registered an FIR against six persons, including the building owner and operators of establishments functioning inside the commercial complex.
The four arrested accused are Virendra Prasad Shukla, the building owner; Tushank Krishna Jaiswal, director of the gaming and animation institute operating in the building; Suresh Kumar Sahu, associated with IT networking operations at the premises; and Ram Krishna Upadhyay, owner of the pet shop functioning from the structure.
Investigators are examining the building's operations, fire safety arrangements, status of fire NOC and other statutory permissions. Police said technical and documentary reports are being sought from multiple departments as part of the probe.
After rescue operations concluded late Monday, the building was sealed and placed under heavy police security to prevent tampering with potential evidence. Police personnel remained deployed throughout the night, restricting movement in and around the structure.
On Tuesday, teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), dressed in protective gear, were seen collecting samples from the debris and examining various sections of the gutted building. Earlier in the day, members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) also inspected the site.
Officials said forensic findings will play a crucial role in determining the origin of the fire, identifying possible safety lapses and fixing accountability for one of Lucknow's deadliest fire tragedies in recent years....
