VARANASI, May 28 -- Four youths were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly snatching a bag containing Rs 1.34 lakh from an accountant near Bhojpur village under Mughalsarai police station area in Chandauli on May 21, Chandauli police said. The police have recovered Rs.60,000 in cash which is part of the stolen amount, 2 motorcycles used to commit the crime, 4 mobile phones and the bag stolen from the victim. A police officer said that the accused identified themselves as Aryan Srivastava, Shivang Pandey, Mohammad Tariq Ansari and Dev Sarkar alias Dayal, all residents of different areas of Varanasi. The officer said that Mahtab Ahmed, a resident of Varanasi who works as an accountant, filed a complaint, informing that he was returning to Varanasi on his moped after collecting cash payments for his firm from various shopkeepers between Padav and Bhojpur. As he reached Chaurhat, five unidentified youths riding two motorcycles rammed into him from behind, knocking him to the ground on the road. They intimidated him and allegedly snatched the bag containing the cash and fled in the direction of Padav. The bag contained a total sum of Rs.134,000. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 304(2) (snatching) of the BNS against unidentified accused. The Mughalsarai Police team launched a search and checking operation to solve the case and apprehend the wanted criminals. Superintendent of police, Akash Patel said, as part of the investigation, a police team examined approximately 70 CCTV cameras, installed across a 25-KM stretch, covering the routes used by the criminals. Moreover, acting on a tip off, four accused were arrested. During the interrogation , it came to light that Akash Yadav, a resident of Sarai Nandan, Khojwa, also works as a cash collector.
