Four arrested as Daraganj police bust gang of bike thieves
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 1 -- Daraganj police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a bike-theft gang with the arrest of four alleged habitual offenders and recovered four stolen motorcycles based on information provided by them.
Police said two motorcycles belonging to Saurabh Yadav and his cousin Raju, residents of Kachchi Sadak, were stolen on the night of September 18. Following a complaint lodged by Saurabh, police registered a case and subsequently identified the suspects with the help of CCTV footage.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested Ritesh Singh of Mohammadabad Bilhara in Utraon, Prince Raj Patel of Majhiyari in Saraymamrez, Prince Yadav of Ahirai in Handia and Saurabh Pandey of Lakshagrih in Handia near Sardar Patel Institute Park on Wednesday.
Based on information provided by the accused, police recovered four motorcycles allegedly stolen recently from the Daraganj, Jhunsi and George Town areas. During questioning, the accused told police they would visit different parts of the city looking for motorcycles and steal them whenever they found an opportunity.
