Lucknow, March 31 -- The CBI court on Monday convicted and sentenced Ashok Kumar Dixit, the then branch manager, State Bank of India, Colonelganj Branch, Prayagraj, and Govind Ram Tiwari, proprietor of M/s GR Associates, Prayagraj , to imprisonment for five years in a bank fraud case. The court also imposed a total fine of Rs Rs 13 lakh on them. The CBI had registered a case on May 31, 2005 based on information from a source against Ashok Kumar Dixit, the then branch manager. It was alleged that Dixit while posted and functioning as SBI branch manager during 2003- 2004 entered into a criminal conspiracy with the accused Govind Ram Tiwari, proprietor of M/s GR Associates. He fraudulently sanctioned and disbursed 36 housing loans amounting to Rs 1,69,45,000 on the basis of bogus documents provided by GR Tiwari causing wrongful loss amounting Rs1,81,85,500 to the bank and corresponding wrongful gain to themselves. After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on August 8, 2007, against the accused, including the convicted accused.
