Forged docu's used to secure bail for former MLA's son, FIR lodged
Meerut, Feb. 26 -- A case of alleged bail fraud has come to light in Muzaffarnagar, where forged documents bearing fake official seals and signatures were reportedly used to secure the release of Abdul Ahad Rana, son of former MLA Shahnawaz Rana, from jail.
According to police, the forged paperwork was submitted in the name of officials from Khalapar Kotwali to verify bail sureties. Based on these documents, Ahad Rana was released, despite the fact that police had not actually verified the sureties. The irregularity surfaced later, prompting an official inquiry.
Superintendent of police (city) Satya Narayan Prajapat ordered an investigation through circle officer Siddharth Mishra. After the probe report confirmed discrepancies, an FIR was registered late Monday night against unidentified persons at Civil Lines Police Station.
The case traces back to an earlier incident involving former MLA Shahnawaz Rana, who had been jailed in connection with an alleged attack on a GST team at Rana Steel and was also facing several other criminal cases. After he secured bail and was released, his son Abdul Ahad Rana was accused of smuggling a mobile phone to him inside jail. Police subsequently arrested Ahad and sent him to prison.
After his bail was granted, documents of two sureties were sent to Khalapar police station on November 11, 2025, for verification.
However, authorities say verification was never completed. Despite this, Ahad Rana was released the following day, November 12. The investigation revealed that some individuals used fake documents instead of genuine surety papers to obtain bail verification. The documents allegedly carried forged seals and signatures in the name of station in-charge Mahavir Singh Chauhan and another outpost official. Investigators also found that the name of the outpost in-charge mentioned in the verification papers was incorrect, further indicating fabrication.
SP city Prajapat said the forged documents were used to mislead the court into accepting bail verification. Once the complaint surfaced, a full inquiry was ordered. Based on the findings, a case has now been registered against unknown persons. Police added that anyone found responsible during the investigation will face legal action....
