Five-year-old schoolgirl crushed to death by bus in Etah
AGRA, Aug. 23 -- A five-year-old Upper KG student died after being run over by her school bus in the Vasundhara town of Etah district on Friday afternoon. The driver fled the scene immediately following the incident, but police have seized the vehicle.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Shwetabh Pandey said the victim, identified as Dimple, was returning home from a private institution, Rajkamal Inter College. Upon reaching her residence, the young girl got off the bus, slipped and fell under the wheels as the vehicle moved. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and are awaiting a formal complaint from the family to register a case. Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has been directed to inspect the vehicle, which was operating without a helper to assist young students.
The tragedy highlights a recurring pattern of school transport negligence across the region, where vehicles often operate without basic safety measures or mandatory support staff.
