Five-year-old boy dies after getting trapped inside locked car
GORAKHPUR, June 25 -- A five-year-old boy died of suspected suffocation after accidentally getting trapped inside a locked family car parked outside his house in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, police officials said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Gulelha village under the Nebua Naurangia police station area. The child, identified as Anas, reportedly entered the parked car while playing near his home. Unaware that he was inside, family members later locked the vehicle and went about their routine work.
When the boy could not be found, his family launched a frantic search across the village and nearby areas. After nearly four hours, they discovered him unconscious inside the locked car. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Sidharth Verma said a preliminary inquiry suggested that the child remained trapped inside the locked vehicle for nearly four hours and died due to suffocation. He added that further legal proceedings were underway.
Police officials said the child's father, Majnu, refused to allow a post-mortem examination. As a result, the exact cause of death could not be officially confirmed. However, the investigation so far indicates that the child died of suffocation.
According to local residents, the family searched for the boy for nearly four hours before he was found inside the vehicle. The incident has left the family and the entire village in mourning.
Officials have appealed to parents and vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure that children do not gain access to parked vehicles. They warned that enclosed cars can quickly become life-threatening, particularly during hot weather conditions....
