Five Jhansi cops booked over alleged extortion of Rs 6 lakh
Jhansi, Oct. 5 -- A police inspector and four constables posted here have been booked at city Kotwali for allegedly taking Rs 6 lakh and two mobile phones from an event manager in November last year, following a court order.
The FIR was registered on Friday, 42 days after the court directed the police to initiate legal action.
The complainant, Sharik Siddiqui, a resident of Panchvati Colony, alleged that he was forcibly taken to Kotwali police station by constables Rajesh Pal and Kapil Chahar, along with two unidentified policemen, while he was returning home on his scooter on the evening of November 12, 2025.
According to his complaint, Rs 6 lakh kept in the scooter's storage compartment and two mobile phones were allegedly taken by constable Kapil Chahar, constable Rajesh Pal and inspector Rajesh Awasthi, who was present at the police station. Sharik alleged that he was released after Rs 20,000 was taken from him, while the remaining cash and phones were not returned.
He further claimed that when he returned to the police station on November 22 to demand the return of his money and phones, he was arrested in a cyber fraud case and sent to jail.
His family subsequently approached the court after allegedly failing to secure action against the police personnel.
On August 20, Chief Judicial Magistrate Sudha Yadav directed the registration of an FIR against the accused policemen. The case was registered after a delay of 42 days.
Circle officer (city) Priya Singh declined to share details of the FIR, saying the matter was subjudice.
She said one of the accused constables had approached the Allahabad High Court, claiming the allegations against him were false.
The allegations against the police personnel have not been independently established, and the case is under legal scrutiny....
