Five hurt as speeding car crashes into family sleeping outside home
LUCKNOW, July 2 -- A speeding car veered off the road and allegedly ploughed into a labourer's family sleeping outside their home in Mohanlalganj area, injuring five people early on Wednesday, police said.
According to officials, the accident occurred around 2 am when the car went out of control, crashing into an autorickshaw and damaging roadside shops, tin sheds and handcarts before ramming into cots on which the family was asleep outside their house.
The injured were identified as Hariram, 65, his wife Ramlali, 60, Deepak, 30, and two others. They were taken to the Mohanlalganj Community Health Centre (CHC), where they are undergoing treatment, according to a statement issued by Lucknow police.
Hariram works as a daily-wage labourer, while Deepak runs a banana cart.
The injured alleged that the car occupants were under the influence of alcohol and were speeding. Police detained the driver and seized the vehicle. Officials said further legal action would be initiated after a formal complaint is lodged....
