Fire tragedy: 4 arrested,4 officials suspended
LUCKNOW, June 23 -- Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the fire incident in the Aliganj area here. One of them is the co-owner while the three others are tenants of the building, police said on Monday night.
Those arrested were identified as Ramakrishna Upadhyay, 43, a resident of Sector D, Aliganj; Virendra Prasad Shukla (co-owner), 62, a resident of Madeyganj on Sitapur Road; Tushok Krishna Jaiswal, 31, a resident of Balaganj and Suresh Kumar Sahu, a resident of Keshav Nagar in Madiaon.
According to police, a case was registered at Aliganj police station under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 125 (penalises rash act endangering human life) and 3(5) of the BNS, along with Sections 6 and 10 of the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Act against six named individuals and others. Officials said efforts were underway to arrest others in the case.
JCP (law and order) Babloo Kumar said the FIR pertains to alleged negligence and violations linked to the fire that swept through a commercial building housing a pet shop, library and gaming studio, resulting in one of the deadliest fire incidents in Lucknow in recent years.
"Police are examining the role of building owners, operators and other persons responsible for safety compliance and management of the premises," he added. Officials said further legal proceedings were underway and additional arrests could not be ruled out. On the instructions of the chief minister, four officials were suspended with immediate effect, said a government statement. The suspended officers were: Gaurav Kumar, executive engineer (collection), electricity department, Jankipuram; Kamlendra Kumar Singh, fire station safety officer (FSSO), fire department, Indira Nagar; Anil Kumar, assistant engineer (AE), LDA and Pramod Pandey, junior engineer (JE), LDA....
