LUCKNOW, Aug. 2 -- A major fire broke out in the basement of a date packaging warehouse in Lucknow's Dubagga area on Saturday afternoon, prompting the deployment of six fire tenders and a specialised rescue team to tackle thick toxic smoke, officials said. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. According to the fire department, the blaze was reported around 1 pm from a basement warehouse near the fish market in Barawan Kala, opposite Unity College. Preliminary investigation suggests the blaze may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. The exact cause and extent of the loss are being assessed. Officials said the smoke was so thick that firefighters could not enter the basement directly. A team equipped with breathing apparatus sets was sent inside, and after nearly one-and-a-half hours of firefighting, the blaze was brought under control.
