FIR against operator of Pak-basedX handle for trying to incite tension
Meerut, May 15 -- A Pakistan-based X handle allegedly attempted to incite communal unrest and provoke people across Meerut and other parts of Uttar Pradesh during the recent labour agitation in Gautam Buddh Nagar, leading the police to register a case at the cyber crime police station here.
According to officials, the X account, operated under the name "Anushi Tiwari Proud of Indian," circulated misleading and inflammatory posts along with videos containing false claims aimed at disturbing communal harmony.
The issue dates back to last month, when a peaceful labour protest in Noida and Greater Noida suddenly turned violent. During the investigation, Gautam Buddh Nagar Police found that rumours and provocative narratives had allegedly been spread through fake posts uploaded from the same X handle. These posts were also widely circulated through WhatsApp groups.
Police said thon May 10, at around 7.39pm, the same account uploaded another 28-second video containing allegedly fabricated claims regarding the demolition of religious places, arson targeting homes and people, and misleading statements mentioning the chief minister.
The video and accompanying claims were reportedly shared by several users before authorities intervened. Meerut Police later issued a clarification on X, dismissing the claims as false and confirming that legal action had been initiated against the account operator.
Officials said the operator attempted to conceal the origin of the account by listing the location as "South Asia." However, during the cyber probe, police established that the account was being operated from Pakistan.
Based on a complaint filed by sub-inspector Vishal Kumar at the cyber crime police station, an FIR was registered on Wednesday against the unidentified operator under Section 353 of the BNS and Section 67 of the IT Act. A cyber team has been deployed to identify and investigate similar social media accounts.
Meerut SSP Avinash Pandey said the police are closely monitoring such activities on social media platforms. "After registration of the FIR, cyber teams have been directed to identify and investigate social media accounts spreading caste-based and communal hatred. Strict action will be taken against anyone found posting provocative or misleading content intended to disturb harmony," the SSP said....
