KANPUR, May 22 -- An FIR lodged on Thursday against Dr Aradhya Nagaich and around 40 junior and senior doctors, based on a complaint by a patient's family triggered tension at the government medical college in Jalaun. The case relates to a midnight dispute over treatment on May 18, 2026 involving Smriti Gupta, daughter of BJP leader Braj Kishor Gupta. An argument broke out between her family and on-duty doctors, followed by allegations of assault. The doctors' protest on Thursday disrupted outpatient department (OPD) services, causing severe inconvenience to patients. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) backed the junior doctors' demonstration, pledging solidarity with medical staff during the ongoing crisis. District magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey intervened following the dharna, after which junior doctors suspended their protest. The DM subsequently ordered a three-member inquiry committee headed by additional district magistrate Premchandra Maurya to investigate the incident. The panel includes forensic medicine specialist Dr Puneet Awasthi and additional SP Dr Ishan Soni. The committee is tasked to examine the sequence of events, review security arrangements at the medical college, suggest measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, and submit its report soon. A dispute broke out between Smriti's family members and doctors on duty over her treatment, leading to allegations of assault and ultimately escalating into an FIR. The dispute erupted near midnight in the emergency ward when a disagreement over paperwork delays allegedly turned violent. According to the complaint filed by BJP leader Brajkishore Gupta, whose daughter was being treated at the facility, Dr Nagaich allegedly pushed him, causing him to fall. When his son Gopal intervened, the confrontation intensified, leading to allegations that doctors and medical staff assaulted family members with sticks and chairs and issued threats during the clash. Gopal sustained serious injuries in the incident and was subsequently admitted to the district hospital in Urai for treatment....
