LUCKNOW, June 3 -- The city witnessed a surge of religious fervour on Tuesday as devotees flocked to Hanuman temples across Lucknow on the occasion of the fifth Bada Mangal of the Jyeshtha month. Long queues were seen from early morning at major temples, including Aliganj Pracheen Hanuman Mandir, Hanuman Setu, Hanumant Dham, Lete Hanuman Mandir and Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Mandir. Worshippers participated in special prayers, devotional programmes and bhajan performances. To provide relief from the heat, large coolers were installed at temple premises. At Lete Hanuman Mandir, the chief priest broke 51 coconuts simultaneously and offered a traditional 'Chhappan bhog' to Lord Hanuman. A similar ritual was performed at Patalpuri Hanuman Mandir. Community feasts, or bhandaras, began across the city from the afternoon, with more than 800 events organised in different localities. Puri-sabzi, bananas, Rooh Afza and boondi were distributed to devotees and passersby. Officials said 330 individuals and organisations had registered with the LMC to organise bhandaras this year....
