PRAYAGRAJ, March 15 -- A 55-year-old farmer was found murdered in Kaushambi, his charred body dumped in bushes near Budhaura Par temple on the outskirts of Chak Khodayganj village under Manjhanpur Kotwali. Police have registered a murder case against unidentified assailants following a written complaint by the victim's son. Ram Murat, who lived near the temple and kept watch over his fields, had been working on Thursday evening with his wife, Sangita Devi, who later returned home alone. When he failed to return the next day, the family launched a search that ended with the grim discovery of his partially burnt body lying in the bushes close to the temple. Shocked family members and villagers alleged he had been killed and his body set on fire to destroy evidence. His son, Anil Kumar, filed a written complaint at Manjhanpur Kotwali accusing unknown persons of murdering his father. An FIR was registered soon after. Kotwal Sunil Kumar Singh said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible. "The accused will be arrested soon, and the full sequence of events will be brought to light," he said. Shivank Singh, DSP (city), confirmed the registration of the murder case and said the postmortem report is awaited.
