Farmer feared killed in crocodile attack in Dudhwa buffer zone
Lakhimpur Kheri, Aug. 20 -- A 54-year-old farmer, a resident of Manjha Farm under Singahi police limits, was allegedly attacked and killed by a crocodile in Jauraha on Wednesday while driving his cattle back from a rivulet.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Singh.
The area falls under the north Nighasan range of Dudhwa buffer zone.
Jauraha rivulet is reported to be infested with crocodiles and several incidents of crocodile attacks have been reported here in the past.
Kirti Chaudhary, deputy director of Dudhwa buffer zone said reports of a casualty from a crocodile attack at Jauraha were received on Wednesday.
She added that a team of forest officials had been rushed to the spot to investigate the case.
She said the body was yet to be recovered and advised villagers to stay away from rivers, rivulets and nullahs in the area due to reported crocodile presence.
Range officer, north Nighasan Bhupendra Singh said the villagers accompanying the victim revealed that the crocodile attacked Ramesh Singh and dragged him deep inside the water.
He added that a search operation to locate the body had been launched and requested villagers to be highly cautious about the reptiles present in Jauraha.
Notably this is the fourth casualty in crocodile attack in Kheri since June when the monsoon season set in....
