Farm worker dies after getting caught in thresher in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, April 8 -- A 20-year-old labourer died after being caught in a thresher while working in a field in the trans-Ganga area of Prayagraj on Tuesday afternoon, police said. The victim, Sumit, son of Rajkumar, had gone to help a local resident, Rohit Yadav, with wheat threshing in Mijhura (Dara Shikoh) village under Baharia police station limits.
Police said that while feeding wheat into the machine, Sumit was suddenly pulled into the thresher, causing fatal injuries. Witnesses described the incident as horrific, and a large number of villagers gathered at the spot.
The tractor driver fled with the vehicle soon after the incident. Baharia police reached the scene, recovered the body with the help of locals, and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered on a complaint by the victim's uncle, Sanjay, and further investigation is under way.
A 17-year-old girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Nachna village of Kaundhiara area late on Monday night, police said.
The girl, identified as Sakshi, was an intermediate student living with her mother. Her father and brother work in Mumbai.
According to police, Sakshi went to the toilet around 11 pm but did not return. Her mother, Sangeeta, later found her lying dead near the toilet behind their house.
Police said there were injury marks on her neck, raising suspicion of strangulation. The mother has alleged that her daughter was murdered using a wire. Police reached the spot, carried out a preliminary inquiry, and sent the body for post-mortem.
Forensic and dog squad teams were also called in to assist the investigation. No formal complaint has been filed so far. Police said further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and any complaint received....
