Family protests before last rites of murdered teen
PRAYAGRAJ, June 19 -- Tension gripped a village in Kaushambi district on Thursday morning when family members and relatives of a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted and murdered earlier this week, refused to perform her last rites and staged a protest demanding further action in the case.
The aggrieved family demanded that the father and brother of the arrested accused be named in the FIR and that rape charges be added to the case. The protest continued for nearly four hours, prompting senior police officials to rush to the village along with personnel from two police stations and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). The victim, a resident of Purab Sharira village, had gone to a field with her friends on June 16 evening. According to the complaint lodged by her family, she was allegedly abducted while returning home by Rahul Kumar Saroj, a resident of the same village. Police said the accused allegedly strangled the girl with her dupatta and dumped her body in a farm field. An FIR was registered against Rahul on the complaint of the victim's brother, and the accused has since been arrested and sent to jail.
However, the victim's family alleged that Rahul's father and brother were also involved in the crime and should be made co-accused in the case. They further claimed that despite their complaints, no rape charge had been invoked. htc...
