LUCKNOW, April 20 -- Tension flared in the Mahingawan police station area on Sunday after around 200 people blocked Kumharawan crossing, alleging foul play in the death of a youth from Rampurwa village whose body was reportedly found in Tamil Nadu earlier this month. Family members of Saurabh, 25, staged a protest, raising slogans and demanding a thorough probe. They claimed his death was not accidental but a case of murder, alleging that the two men who took him for work had been evasive and failed to inform them about his whereabouts. According to the family, Saurabh had left home on April 10 with two men from Barabanki who had promised him a job in Kerala. "He spoke to us initially, but then his phone was switched off. When we contacted those who took him, they kept dodging our questions," the family alleged. Police, however, have presented a different version. In an official statement, Lucknow Police said a missing complaint was registered at Mahingawan police station on April 15 after Saurabh did not return home. "During the course of the inquiry, police received information on April 18 that the youth had died on April 12 after being hit by a train near Jolarpettai Railway Junction in Tamil Nadu's Tirupattur district," said Ram Kumar Gupta, station in charge Mahigawan. "Prima facie, the death appears to be due to a train accident. However, the family has expressed suspicion and alleged murder. All angles are being investigated," the SHO said, adding that coordination has been established with authorities in Tamil Nadu for further legal proceedings. Police also confirmed that the protest at Kumharawan crossing was brought under control, with senior officers and adequate force deployed at the spot. "The situation is normal and under control. Efforts are being made to pacify the family," officials said.
