Meerut, April 21 -- In a case of alleged medical negligence, a newborn died at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Barkhera, in Pilibhit, after a reported power outage disrupted oxygen support and no backup generator was activated. The incident sparked outrage among the family members, who staged a prolonged protest by keeping the infant's body within the hospital premises for nearly nine hours. Sunil Kumar, a resident of Jeoraha Kalyanpur village, had admitted his wife, Geeta Devi, to the CHC on April 19, for delivery. He alleged that the on-duty staff nurses, identified as Madhu Bharti and Nisha, failed to provide adequate care during the critical hours of treatment. The family claimed they were denied entry into the ward from 9 PM to 2 AM and were kept in the dark about the patient's condition. They further alleged that despite signs of complications, the medical staff neither managed the situation effectively nor referred the patient to a higher medical facility. Following the delivery, the newborn was reportedly placed on oxygen support. However, within minutes, the hospital experienced a power cut. When the family urged the staff to start a generator, they were allegedly told that no backup power arrangement was available. The child was not referred to a better-equipped hospital in time. Following the death, agitated relatives kept the newborn's body inside the hospital premises from approximately 2 AM to 11 AM, protesting against what they described as blatant negligence. They have lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), demanding strict action against the doctor, nurses, and supporting staff involved. Responding to the allegations, CHCs Superintendent Dr Lokesh Gangwar confirmed that a complaint has been received.
