LUCKNOW, Sept. 28 -- Two youths allegedly posing as prospective tenants robbed an RTO inspector's wife of her gold chain in Jankipuram on Wednesday afternoon. They allegedly used an enquiry about a rental house to get close to her before fleeing with the jewellery. The incident took place around 3pm on September 23 when Shashi Singh, wife of RTO inspector Dhairendra Singh and a resident of Sita Vihar Colony, was allegedly approached by the two youths. According to the complaint, the duo asked about a house available for rent and, during the interaction, allegedly snatched the gold chain from her neck before escaping. Police said an FIR was registered at Jankipuram police station based on the written complaint. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and collecting other evidence to establish the accused's movements and identities. A Lucknow man alleged to have lost Rs.2 lakh after opening a fake e-challan APK file sent to him on WhatsApp, with cyber fraudsters reportedly retaining control of his phone for nearly six days, police said. The victim, Uttam, a resident of Chaudhary Tola in Aliganj, told police that he received the file from an unknown number on September 6. The sender claimed it was an RTO challan notification issued in Uttam's name and asked him to open the file to verify the details. Soon after he opened it, his phone was allegedly compromised. The next day, Rs.2 lakh was deducted from his credit card, which he initially ignored. On September 10, his phone suddenly stopped working. When it switched on the following day, he found four transaction messages showing that Rs.2 lakh had been withdrawn from his account. Aliganj police have registered an FIR, while the cyber cell is investigating and attempting to freeze the stolen funds. A 24-year-old man was arrested within a day after an FIR was lodged against him for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 10-year-old girl in Dubbaga area of Lucknow, police said on Sunday. According to police, the girl's mother approached the Dubbaga police station on Sunday and alleged that the accused had sexually assaulted her daughter. An FIR was registered under Sections 65(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 5M and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Police identified the accused as Kundan, 24, a resident of a slum settlement near Joggers Park in Dubbaga. Police said the accused and the survivor's family are related.
