PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 31 -- Two pharmacists at a government health facility in Pratapgarh were suspended and a medicine warehouse was sealed after an alleged incident in which an expired injection was administered to the eight-year-old daughter of a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), officials said. The incident came to light on Friday at the Community Health Centre (CHC) and trauma centre in Lalganj. According to officials, Shreyasi Singh, daughter of Lalganj SDM Vachaspati Singh, developed a high fever and was taken to the trauma centre at around 3 pm on Saturday. Hospital staff allegedly administered an injection of Paracetamol mixed with glucose to the child. The matter surfaced when a member of the SDM's staff reportedly noticed that the injection had crossed its expiry date. The attendant immediately brought the issue to the notice of the SDM, who questioned the hospital staff and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The SDM alleged that pharmacist Arvind Kumar Shukla, who was in charge of the medicine store, issued the expired Paracetamol injection, while pharmacist Dev Kumar Dubey administered it to the child without verifying the expiry date.
