VARANASI, June 25 -- Five youths, arrested on Tuesday for preparing non-vegetarian food and consuming alcohol on board a boat in the Ganga, were ordered to be released by an executive magistrate. Counsel for the youths, Vikas Kumar Singh, said that the court of executive magistrate/assistant commissioner of police (ACP)-III ordered the release of Deepak Kumar, boatman Ajay Sahani, Arun Kumar Sahani and Anurag Nishad, and Rahul Sahani, all residents of different areas of Varanasi, on the submission of two sureties of Rs.20,000 each and a personal bond. Singh said that the court heard the matter and ordered the release. A video showing some youths cooking non-vegetarian food and consuming alcohol on board a boat in the Ganga went viral on social media late on Monday evening. Assistant commissioner of police, Dashashwamedh, Atul Anjan Tripathi, said that a video had been circulating rapidly on social media since Monday evening, showing people cooking non-vegetarian food on the Ganga. An immediate investigation was initiated which confirmed the authenticity of the video. Subsequently, five individuals seen in the footage were arrested, while the investigation regarding the others is ongoing. The boat where the party was held has also been seized, said the ACP.
