Ex-soldier shoots brother-in-law dead in Pratapgarh
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 19 -- : A retired Army personnel allegedly shot dead his 48-year-old brother-in-law at a medical store in Madapharpur market in Pratapgarh on Tuesday afternoon, apparently upset over his wife being brought to her parental home without informing him.
Devendra Yadav was sitting at his medical store when his brother-in-law Kapil Dev Yadav, a resident of Amethi's Piparpur area, arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly opened fire with his licensed pistol. Devendra suffered multiple bullet injuries and died during treatment at the medical college, police said.
Locals and family members caught Kapil Dev and trashed him before handing him over to police. He was taken to community health centre at Kohandaur and later referred to the medical college hospital.
Police said Devendra had brought his sister, Priyanka, to their parental home on Monday following an alleged domestic dispute.
Devendra's father, Gaya Prasad Yadav, alleged that Kapil Dev had earlier threatened the family through a WhatsApp message, asking them to "keep shrouds ready for the entire family". He also claimed that Kapil Dev had allegedly assaulted Priyanka and pressured her to bring money from her parental home.
Gaya Prasad said he had approached the nearby police outpost twice but could not meet the outpost in-charge.
He subsequently called UP-112, but police arrived shortly after the shooting.
SP-Pratapgarh Deepak Bhukar said the accused's pistol had been recovered. Devendra's brother has lodged an FIR against Kapil Dev....
