Ex-pharma employee steals customer data, dupes victims of Rs.50L in fake sex medicine scam
Meerut, May 18 -- A former employee of a Noida-based pharmaceutical company allegedly cheated people of nearly Rs.50 lakh within a year by using stolen customer data to pose as an online supplier of sex-enhancing medicines. Police on Saturday arrested four accused, including the alleged mastermind Sanjay Sarkar, for operating the racket that targeted victims across ten states.
According to police officials, Sanjay Sarkar had previously worked at an online medicine supply company in Sector-62, Noida. After leaving the job, he allegedly formed a cyber fraud network with his associates and began exploiting confidential customer information obtained illegally from the company.
SP rural Abhijeet Kumar and CO Pankaj Lavania said the fraud came to light during an investigation into complaints registered on the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre's Pratibimb portal. Using mobile and IMEI tracking, police arrested Sanjay Sarkar, Mohit Sarkar, Subramanyam Yamalvalasa and Harsh Sarkar from the New Block Colony area under Hastinapur police station.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that Sanjay received daily customer data from Munna Kumar Shah, an employee of the pharmaceutical company. Munna reportedly shared information about people ordering sex-enhancing medicines through WhatsApp and other online platforms in exchange for Rs.2,500 per day.
Police said the accused gained access to details of nearly 4,000 customers who had purchased or inquired about such medicines online.
Using this data, the gang contacted customers while pretending to be authorised medicine suppliers....
