LUCKNOW, Aug. 12 -- A special CBI court in Lucknow has sentenced former chief regional manager of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Krishna Mohan Tripathi, to three years' imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case, senior CBI officials said on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.14.75 lakh on Tripathi on Monday. He was serving as chief regional manager at the IRCTC regional office in Lucknow when the alleged offences were committed. According to the CBI, the disproportionate assets case was registered on February 24, 2010, as a follow-up to a trap case. Tripathi was called red-handed on October 31, 2009, while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.70,000. During the investigation, the agency found that he allegedly possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The CBI later registered a separate case against Tripathi for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets. After completing its investigation, the agency filed a charge sheet against him on December 13, 2011. During the trial, the prosecution established that Tripathi possessed disproportionate assets worth Rs.1,44,02,221, amounting to 102.53% of his total income from known sources, the CBI said. After considering the evidence, the court convicted Tripathi and sentenced him to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs.14.75 lakh....
