Agra, Aug. 30 -- Schools of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) celebrated National Sports Day with enthusiasm and sporting spirit on Saturday. The day was observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The celebrations were held at AMU ABK High School Boys, AMU ABK High School Girls, S.T.S. School, AMU Girls' School, AMU City Girls' High School and Abdullah School. A variety of sporting and fitness activities were organised for students. The activities promoted physical well-being, discipline, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship among the students. At AMU ABK High School Boys, a special sports event was organised on the school grounds. Former AMU vice-chancellor prof Mohammad Gulrez attended the event as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, prof Mohammad Gulrez stressed the importance of sports in the overall development of students. He encouraged young athletes to take part in sports with dedication, discipline and a positive competitive spirit. At AMU ABK High School Girls, the celebrations began with a special morning assembly. It highlighted the significance of sports and the life and achievements of Major Dhyan Chand. The main programme was held at the Union Hall Ground. Students took part in hockey, tug of war and shuttle race events. STS School celebrated the occasion with a lecture and a range of sporting and recreational activities.
