Ensure monsoon preparedness, improve utility services: AK Sharma tells officials
VARANASI, June 16 -- Minister for urban development and energy AK Sharma instructed municipal officials to ensure sanitation and drainage systems are prepared for the upcoming monsoon, warning that negligence will not be tolerated.
During a detailed review meeting held at the Circuit House in Varanasi on Monday, Sharma directed officials from urban local bodies and the electricity department to prioritise the completion of public amenity projects within strict timelines.
Reviewing the urban development department, Sharma ordered the comprehensive cleaning of drains to prevent waterlogging, emphasising that all necessary monsoon preparations must be completed well in advance. He also called for special drives to clear garbage from roadsides and dividers, noting that cities should prioritise cleanliness, greenery, and robust infrastructure. Furthermore, he reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects and public welfare schemes, directing officials to ensure high quality and timely delivery.
Turning to the energy department, the minister assessed the power supply status, focusing on transformer capacity, the rapid replacement of faulty units, and overall grid strengthening. He directed officials to provide uninterrupted, high-quality electricity, specifically highlighting the need to address potential technical challenges during the summer and monsoon seasons. He also mandated the regular monitoring of the 1912 helpline to ensure the prompt redressal of consumer grievances.
The meeting was attended by municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal and other officials from the urban development department, alongside Shambhu Kumar, managing director of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and other senior departmental staff....
