LUCKNOW, Sept. 28 -- A 25-year-old chemical engineer was found dead in a treatment-plant tank at a paper mill in Ayodhya late Saturday night, hours after he allegedly told his mother that his manager was harassing him and sent a resignation letter from his computer without his consent. The engineer, who worked at a paper mill in Darshan Nagar and lived alone in Ayodhya, called his mother between 10.30pm and 11pm and asked her to speak to his manager, she said. Police said the family had alleged foul play and sought an impartial probe. The cause of death had not yet been established yet and the circumstances to the engineer's death were being investigated. In a statement posted on online platform X, police said the body had been sent for postmortem. Ayodhya Kotwali inspector-in-charge Pankaj Singh said a murder FIR had been registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on a complaint filed by the father of the victim engineer. According to the family, the manager later told them that the engineer had been demanding money related to a loan and had threatened suicide if he was not paid. The family said it had told the manager that they wanted only his safety. The manager later informed them that he could not find him. The family also alleged that the engineer had given a substantial sum of money to an acquaintance and had repeatedly asked for it to be returned. They further alleged that he had complained of harassment at work and wanted to leave the job. The family questioned the absence of CCTV cameras at the spot, alleging that cameras installed there earlier had been removed. A relative said the body was found face down and semi-nude in the tank, with injury marks visible on it. Police have not confirmed whether the injuries were connected to his death. The engineer was a native of Banda district, had studied chemical engineering in Punjab and had joined the paper mill around three years ago.
