Elderly man dies by suicide amid family property dispute
PRAYAGRAJ, June 24 -- :A 65-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Kathula village under the Airport police station area, reportedly distressed over an ongoing property dispute among his sons.
According to police, the deceased had six sons and one daughter. All of his sons were living separately, and disagreements over the division of ancestral land had reportedly been continuing for several days.
Police said he allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan hook using a rope late Monday night.
At the time of the incident, his wife was staying at the house of their eldest son.
The family discovered the incident on Tuesday morning when his grandson noticed the body and alerted other family members.
Airport police reached the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Police said no suicide note was recovered from the room.
Airport SHO Rajesh Upadhyay said preliminary investigation suggests that the elderly man was under stress due to the ongoing family dispute over property division, which may have driven him to take the extreme step. Further investigation is underway....
