Eight held under gangster act in Sonbhadra crackdown on illegal mining
VARANASI, July 4 -- Sonbhadra police on Friday arrested eight people wanted under the Gangster Act in separate operations across the district, including members of an alleged illegal mining syndicate. Sonbhadra SP Abhishek Verma said Robertsganj police arrested Arman Khan ,32, Arif Khan ,37, of Sonbhadra, and Ranjeet Kumar alias Neta Yadav ,20, and Dineshwar Keshri ,35, of Mirzapur, identified as members of an organised gang involved in illegal mining and transportation of minerals. Three four-wheelers allegedly used in the crime were seized after the accused failed to produce valid documents.
Police said the four had several criminal cases and, on September 12, 2025, allegedly tried to run over district mineral office surveyor Yogesh Shukla and his team during an inspection, besides driving dangerously and breaching the inspection barrier.
A case was registered under relevant BNS sections and the CLA Act. Separately, Hathi Nala police arrested Alam and Vakil, while Karma police arrested Suresh Maurya and Sanoj Yadav, all wanted under the Gangster Act.htc...
