LUCKNOW, Oct. 16 -- The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a prosecution complaint against competitive exam coaching giant FIITJEE Limited and its directors, Dinesh Kumar Goel and Monila Goel, accusing them of laundering Rs.85.79 crore in advance student fees collected for coaching programmes that were never delivered. Filed by the agency's Lucknow zonal office before the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Ghaziabad, the complaint seeks the conviction of both directors and the formal confiscation of assets worth Rs.71.88 crore seized or attached during the probe, stated an official release. The investigation found that FIITJEE abruptly shut 32 centres in UP and MP between May 2024 and February 2025, leaving 14,411 students without coaching, for which they had paid in advance. Despite the closures and faculty departures, the company continued enrolling students for programmes extending up to March 2029, the ED alleged. Students had paid between Rs.2.8 lakh and Rs.3.5 lakh each for two-to-four-year courses preparing them for competitive examinations, including the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The agency alleged that the fees were misappropriated and spent while the company remained in continuous deficit. The ED alleged that Dinesh and Monila Goel received a combined Rs.24.92 crore in salaries from the financial year 2022-23 onwards, even as employees' salaries were delayed or unpaid. Dinesh drew about Rs.56 lakh a month, while Monila received more than Rs.25 lakh a month. The agency said the Goel family held 86.31% of the company's shares, enabling the directors to approve their own remuneration without independent oversight. Monila told investigators that she did not attend the office regularly and signed cheques from home, the ED said. Payments to her continued even as the centres were closing. The investigation stems from four FIRs registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Noida and Greater Noida and the Madhya Pradesh Police in Bhopal. The complaints allege cheating, criminal breach of trust and conspiracy. The Noida Police filed a charge sheet naming both directors as accused, based on statements from around 300 victims, coaching centre operators and other witnesses, along with fee receipts and other evidence, the ED said. The agency searched seven premises on April 24, 2025, seizing Rs.10 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs.4.86 crore. It subsequently provisionally attached properties worth Rs.66.92 crore on October 9, 2026, under the PMLA. The ED said further investigation was in progress....
