Drug trafficker held in Saharanpur with smack worth Rs 60.40 lakh
Meerut, July 13 -- Police in Saharanpur district have arrested an alleged drug trafficker and recovered 320 grams of smack estimated to be worth Rs 60.40 lakh, along with a country-made pistol, two cartridges and a motorcycle without a registration number plate. An associate of the accused managed to escape, police said.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mukrim, a resident of Dhalapada village.
Circle officer Shashiprakash Sharma said that police were conducting patrolling and checking on Sunday when they intercepted the suspects near the Khanpur Tatahedi intersection. While Mukrim was apprehended, his associate fled the spot after spotting the police.
During questioning, Mukrim allegedly told police that he and his associate were involved in the purchase and sale of smack. According to police, the duo was travelling on the motorcycle to deliver the contraband to customers when they were intercepted.
Police recovered 320 grams of smack, valued at approximately Rs 60.40 lakh, from Mukrim's possession. A country-made pistol, two cartridges and the motorcycle without a registration number plate were also seized.
The accused allegedly told investigators that he carried the firearm and ammunition for his protection and to intimidate people.Police have launched a search for his absconding associate ....
