Domestic LPG consumers in UP urged to complete Aadhaar authentication
Lucknow, Aug. 17 -- Domestic LPG consumers in Uttar Pradesh are being asked to complete their e-KYC and Aadhaar-based biometric authentication to keep their connections fully active and ensure uninterrupted access to applicable subsidy benefits.
The exercise covers existing as well as new domestic LPG consumers, including beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Consumers who have not completed the required authentication are advised to do so at the earliest to avoid possible disruption in services. The verification drive aims to ensure that LPG connections are linked to genuine consumers, eliminating duplicate or ineligible connections and preventing diversion of subsidised cooking gas.
Currently, there is no final cut-off date applicable uniformly to all consumers in Uttar Pradesh, according to information available on the verification exercise. However, consumers who have not completed e-KYC are encouraged to complete it without waiting for a deadline.
President of UP LPG Distributors Association Jagdish Raj said that the Union petroleum ministry had earlier clarified that biometric Aadhaar authentication is required for LPG customers who have not completed e-KYC so far.
It also said that non-PMUY customers who have already completed the authentication need not repeat it.
He said oil marketing companies are using the verification process to establish the identity and eligibility of LPG consumers. Consumers who fail to complete the required authentication for a prolonged period could face account-level restrictions, including suspension or blocking of the connection or interruption of benefits, depending on their status and applicable rules.
However, the petroleum ministry has specifically clarified that e-KYC itself should not be understood as an order to stop LPG refill supplies to every consumer who has not yet completed it. In March 2026, the ministry said supply of refills was not affected by the e-KYC requirement. Therefore, consumers should not panic, but those whose KYC remains incomplete should get it updated promptly. Ujjwala beneficiaries particularly need to ensure authentication
The exercise is particularly important for PMUY beneficiaries, as targeted LPG subsidy is linked to eligibility and verification. For 2025-26, the Union government approved a Rs.300 subsidy per 14.2-kg cylinder for up to nine refills a year for PMUY beneficiaries, with a total allocation of Rs.12,000 crore.
The subsidy is transferred through the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism. Aadhaar-based authentication helps ensure that the benefit reaches the eligible consumer and helps weed out duplicate or ineligible connections.
According to the petroleum ministry, Aadhaar verification, biometric authentication and removal of duplicate or ineligible connections have strengthened the PAHAL (DBTL) system and helped identify "ghost" accounts, multiple connections and inactive LPG connections.
The exercise also seeks to prevent subsidised domestic LPG from being diverted for commercial use....
