Docs use clot-dissolving drug to treat eye bleeding
KANPUR, May 20 -- Doctors at GSVM Medical College successfully treated a severe internal eye bleed without opening the eyeball by using Tenecteplase, a clot-dissolving drug commonly used for heart attack patients.
The case involved a 30-year-old woman from Govind Nagar who suffered a blunt eye injury after being hit by a relative's elbow. The injury caused heavy internal bleeding, severe pressure and near-total vision loss.
Ultrasound scans showed choroidal detachment and "kissing choroids", a serious condition in which swollen inner eye layers press against each other.
The procedure was led by Parvez Khan, head of the ophthalmology department. Doctors injected the drug into the suprachoroidal space using a technique developed by the team.
Khan said the clot dissolved within 24 hours and was cleared without major surgery.
Doctors said the minimally invasive method reduced risk and recovery time, though further clinical evaluation is needed before wider use....
