Doc among 4 dead as MUV rams into truck in Barabanki
India, May 27 -- LUCKNOW Four friends, including a government doctor, were killed and three others critically injured after a speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) rammed into the rear of a trailer (truck) on the Lucknow-Sultanpur highway in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district early on Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred around 3 am near Bhikhra village in Haidergarh area when a group of seven friends was travelling to Kainchi Dham in Uttarakhand for pilgrimage.
According to police, preliminary investigation suggests the driver may have dozed off moments before the collision. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was badly mangled, trapping several occupants inside. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing screams and informed the police. Rescue teams, with the help of locals, pulled out the injured passengers and shifted them to a nearby hospital.
Doctors declared four of them dead on arrival, while three critically injured passengers were referred to the King George Medical University, Lucknow. The deceased were identified as Dr Rahul Kumar, 36, of Chandauli, Rahul Singh, 35, of Ghazipur, Satyam Singh, 38, of Ballia; and Suraj Mishra, 31, of Sultanpur.
The injured have been identified as Pankaj, 34, of Mirzapur, Chandan, 35, of Chandauli; and Prashant of Ballia. Police said all seven friends had gathered at Satyam Singh's residence in Varanasi before leaving for Kainchi Dham....
