LUCKNOW, Feb. 25 -- Divyang rehabilitation centres will be set up in all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh with a budget of Rs.7 crore, said Narendra Kashyap, state minister for backward classes welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities. These centres will strengthen the system for early identification, treatment and provision of disability equipment, he added. Addressing a press conference at his residence in Lucknow on Tuesday, he said: "The budget for the backward classes welfare department has been set at Rs.3,402 crore this year, while the budget for the empowerment of persons with disabilities department has been increased to Rs.2,140 crore." Kashyap further said that not a single eligible student in the state has been deprived of a scholarship since 2023-24 under the backward classes welfare department's scholarship and fee reimbursement scheme. So far, approximately 2 million students have received scholarships. He said around 3.8 million (38 lakh) students are expected to benefit from the scheme in 2026-27....
