PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 17 -- A separate divisional cybercrime police station will soon be set up in Prayagraj to investigate cybercrime cases from across the division. The state government has approved Rs.2.15 crore for the construction of its administrative building. The two-storey building will be constructed on one acre of land at Kotwa Mubarakpur in Jhalwa. The construction work has been entrusted to division-III of the Public Works Department (PWD). Officials said the tender process is likely to begin this month. The building is expected to be completed within a year. It will have facilities for receiving and investigating cybercrime complaints, conducting probes and carrying out technical operations related to cybercrime cases. Earlier, a cybercrime police station was established at the Prayagraj range office to register cases involving cyber fraud of more than Rs.5 lakh in Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur districts. After the police commissionerate system was introduced in Prayagraj in late 2022, the cyber police station was brought under the commissionerate. However, the zonal cybercrime unit continues to operate from the range office. With a separate administrative building now being planned for the division, officials expect better coordination and faster disposal of cybercrime cases received from the four districts. "The budget has been made available for construction of the administrative building.
