Disproportionate assets: UP Vigilance books excise inspector
LUCKNOW, May 22 -- The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment registered a case against a Firozabad-based excise inspector for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, officials said on Thursday.
The FIR was lodged on Wednesday at the Vigilance Sector police station in Agra against Kaushal Kumar under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, which deals with criminal misconduct by a public servant.
Officials said the case stemmed from an open inquiry ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government on May 6, 2024, into allegations that the officer accumulated assets and incurred expenditure beyond his legitimate income while serving in the excise department.
According to the vigilance inquiry report, Kaushal Kumar earned Rs.1.60 crore from known legal sources during the check period, while his expenditure and investments in assets totaled around Rs.1.91 crore.
Investigators alleged that the inquiry revealed disproportionate assets and expenditure worth Rs.31.18 lakh, which the officer allegedly failed to satisfactorily explain. The final inquiry report was submitted to the state government by the vigilance establishment in January this year, following which sanction for prosecution was granted by the Vigilance Department on March 10, 2026.
Officials said the accused is currently posted as an excise inspector in Firozabad district and is a native of Farrukhabad district. The FIR was registered on the complaint of vigilance inspector Satyavijay Singh, and further investigation in the case is underway....
